The “Rally to Protect our Neighborhoods” is designed to “enhance public safety through building partnerships,” according to the event’s poster. The rally will be held at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30th.
The event will be held in conjunction with the “Justice for Jai’lyn Rally,” which will raise awareness about the unsolved homicide of the 17-year-old Northwest High School student.
“WE NEED ALL HANDS ON DECK,” Jai’lyn’s mother Alexis Jones said in an Instagram post. “Come together and stand in solidarity so that no other child, parent or family will go through what myself and so many other mothers of murdered children are now going through in Montgomery County.”
Jai’lyn was reported missing by the Maryland Center for Missing and Unidentified Persons (MCMUP) on Jan. 12, according to a Facebook post from the organization.
His body was later found brutally stabbed and mutilated in the 18900 block of Grotto Lane in Germantown on Jan. 24, according to Montgomery County Police. To this day, no arrests have been made in the case, the MoCo Show reports.
“Could you image it being your son or daughter,” Jones continued on Instagram. “We cannot let this virus of hate and maliciousness, continue to spread throughout our communities we must contain it now before more children and families are affected by this senselessness.”
All community members are invited to the event, which will be hosted by Councilmembers Craig Rice and Sidney Katz as well as Greg Wims of the Upcounty Regional Services Center. Community resources will be available as well.
